The Trevor Harris
Story So Far

How it all began...

Trevor Harris Paver Hire came into being in 2010, evolving out of an even longer history with plant and road surfacing machinery.  The story really starts in 2008 when Trevor made the move from working as a vehicle mechanic to becoming a service engineer for Wirtgen/Vogele/Hamm.

Going Solo

Working for Vogele took him all over Europe fixing Vogele paving machines, giving him a wealth of knowledge about these machines which is hard to beat, and it also meant that he had a van at his disposal to tow his F2 stock car.

After 8 years on the road as a service engineer, Trevor went solo as a mobile plant mechanic specialising in road surfacing machinery, looking after paving machines belonging to local councils and surfacing companies all over Scotland. During this time Trevor did all the warranty repairs in Scotland for Pavemac, working on Ammann Pavers, and doing warranty repairs on Bomag machines through AP Pavers.

Since Trevor now looks after our fleet of pavers, it is safe to say they get the most knowledgeable care possible. And even though he no longer carries out plant repair work as a rule, he does still get phone calls from people looking for some technical support when they have a fault which is resisting diagnosis.

The first Trevor Harris Paver

In 2010, having built up a rapport with his customers, plant repair evolved into the purchase of a paver machine, a Marini MF 371. Business grew and, with the support of John Finn at Pavemac, our first Ammann arrived in 2014.

Tarmac and and Leith were among our first customers, and Fife Regional Council, who remain one of our customers today, was the first local council to hire a paver from Trevor, and more Scottish local councils followed suit.

This first machine was with us until 2019, by which time it had been joined by several others, and even outlived a few of them.

More customers followed, and the team and the fleet of pavers grew, so much so that a loader and driver were needed to make sure everything got to where it needed to be, on time and safely.  Two of Trevor's sons followed him into the business, working as operators and screwmen.

Before long, Trevor Harris pavers were to be found working on hire all over Scotland, and in all weathers too!

Branching Out

Since the company now had all the equipment and the expertise, it wasn't long before Trevor was asked if they could carry out some surfacing work, and one of the first jobs they did was on his daughter's farm nearly ten years ago.

From this point on, the Trevor Harris team regularly undertook their own surfacing work for a wide variety of customers, and there are a substantial number of farm roads, car parks and yards in the Fife area and beyond which we can lay claim to.  The team, who have worked alongside road crews from all over the country, relished the chance do their 'own' work, since it allowed them to show their skills and produce a beautifully finished job which will last a long time.

New Ventures

Over the last year and a half, the company has branched out into new territory, undertaking bigger and more ambitious surfacing jobs, including EV charging stations and other, more specialised work. A contracts manager was brought in to oversee these new ventures, leaving Trevor free to run about in his fitter's van, looking after the machines and keeping an eye on everything.

The paver hire side of the business continues to go from strength to strength with the addition of a brand new, state of the art Vogele 1303 at the end of 2024.

Looking Forward

As our history shows, Trevor Harris has evolved steadily over the years, even through the bleakness of COVID-19. This is only the story so far; looking to the future, Trevor Harris are eager to make further inroads into our own surfacing contracting work, while continuing to provide a great paver hire service to customers old and new.

If you'd like to see more of our fleet, or are interested in paver hire, have a look here, or if you'd like to see some surfacing work we've done recently this is the place to be.
